Putting on extra weight isn’t only a sign of a careless diet, it can also be an indication of getting older, poor health, sickness, and even factors like a lower social status.

This makes surgeries like liposuction and tummy tucks one of the most highly requested cosmetic operations in the world.

These procedures are, in fact, even sought after in what others might term third world countries, so you can imagine how popular they are in places like the USA and Europe. Below, we discuss what these two plastic surgical procedures involve.

Liposuction

The core of all liposuction procedures comprises of cutting open a part of the skin, inserting a small hollow tube into the cut part, and then sucking out fat that lies underneath the skin. Liposuction can be performed on a number of areas in the body. The area around the stomach and upper thighs are the most popular requested areas for liposuction, but the upper arms, knees, and necks are also fast growing areas requested for liposuction fat removal.

There are now a number of different liposuction procedures to choose from. Vaser Liposuction is becoming known as being safer in that it involves less pain and blood loss. The Vaser technique makes use of ultrasound waves that are said to soften or dissolve fat, which supposedly makes them easier to remove. Other Liposuction methods make use of water to loosen the fat tissue, or using two tubes to suck the fat out, with the smaller one inside the larger tube.

Tummy tuck

Medically known as abdominoplasty, tummy tucks are similar to liposuction in that it is also done to remove fat. In this case, however, the fat removal only takes place in the stomach area. Tummy tucks involve removing or “tucking” a portion of the skin too, a process not necessarily done or available for liposuction.

Tummy tucks are generally considered safer than liposuction, and they can also be part of a complete plastic surgery set that includes reductions, lifts, or implants such as small silicone pads to mimic the appearance of pectoral muscles.

A tummy tuck cost is similar to that of a liposuction procedure performed around the middle, although the cost can vary widely from surgeon to surgeon. Hospitals tend to charge more than surgery centers due to the more complete facilities, and those who live in large, populated areas should expect to pay more for a tummy tuck procedure than those who live in more rural places.
